Who's Eir?
From tales of Norse gods and goddesses, Eir is a known healer. Her name pronounced "air", is a symbol of protection, help and mercy.
She is spoken of few times but her impact is known by all. There are mentions of Eir in Poetic Edda. Verses 38-40 of the poem Fjölsvinnsmál, she is listed by the watchman alongside figures like Hlíf, Hlífþrasa, and Aurboda. Here she is one of the maidens attending the lady Menglöð. As they sit peacefully at Menglöð's knees, they are observed by the watchmen. One questions their purpose, to which the other replies:
"The wise women give protection, whenever men sacrifice to them
in an altar-hallowed place;
no matter how dire the peril that comes upon men’s sons
they save them from their straits."
She can be found on Lyfjaberg, the healing mountain, a place that offers solace to all who climb it.
